Kamala Beach is located on the west coast of Phuket, Thailand. It is South of Surin and north of Patong.


Kamala Beach is about 2 kilometres in length and is one of the less visited areas in Phuket making it a great area for relaxation. Kamala is great as everything is in easy walking distance from the nearby hotels and is a favoured spot for long term visitors and retirees around the village, no wonder it is known as “the beach of pensioners”. Being one of the most family-friendly of the Phuket beaches, Kamala’s nightlife is more about fun than crazy partying. Kamala Beach has the ideal ratio of price, comfort and natural tropical beauty.

In the north of Kamala beach there is a very good place to take a break from any tourists. It is a less known spot and here local Thai’s are selling souvenirs for a very low price. For some views of fisherman boats make sure to take a stroll down to the south of Kamala. The best spot for swimming and tourists generally tends to be the center which is marked by swimming floats and flags.

The beach still retains some greenery, tropical palm trees and Casuarina trees.

• Phuket’s famous Phuket Fantasea is located in Kamala. It is its first biggest Vegas like show which has been running since 1998. It is a two hour show which is definitely a must see for all!
• Kamala hosts a weekly Friday market (14:00- 19:30). Visiting this market is not only great for the local souvenirs and fresh variety of street food but great for discovering the soul of this small fisherman village.
• Interestingly, Kamala is in fact a Muslim village. However, here sits Wat Baan Kamala (Kamala temple) a classic Buddhist temple located on kamala beachfront towards its Southern end.
• On this beach you can not only swim and sunbathe, here you can also play playing volleyball Rent a jetski, kayak or snorkeling kits. There’s much fun to have on this beach if you are not one for constant sunbathing. Kamala is also one of the most sought after spots for surfing after Kata Noi and Kalim Beach.
